Why I Vacation Every Year With Just My Siblings
Because siblings relationships are some of the longest and best ones we’ll ever have
“Be nice to your siblings. They are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.” — Baz Luhrmann, Everybody’s Free
I have a lot of siblings — 7 of them. And one highlight every year for me is going on adventures with just them. Rarely do I adventure with all 7 of them at the same time (although we’ve done it!) — I usually go with 2, or 3 or 4 of them at once.
We all bear a striking resemblance to one another, so whenever we’re out, people always seem to recognize and comment that we’re traveling together as siblings. And often, we’ll get comments like, “I wish I still traveled with just my siblings.”
We can’t help but smile when we hear this.
Like most siblings, we’ve all gone through the inevitable ups and downs that come with growing up with others that share the same genes, and parents, and need for attention.
But as we’ve gotten older, we’ve all started to realize more and more the importance of having each other. Sibling relationships are some of the longest relationships we’re blessed to have — and siblings relationships often last longer than those with our parents, friends, or significant other.
For me, vacationing every year with just my siblings is a part of keeping my relationships with them strong. Unlike when I see my siblings on Holidays, when I go on vacations with just them, I get days of uninterrupted time. We get to share adventures, and laughs, and cook together. We get to climb mountains and watch sunrises and explore new places — just like when we were kids. I look forward to this special time with them every year, and it definitely helps keep us close and invested in each other’s lives.
The next time you decide to go on a vacation, reach out to your sibling/s and invite them on the adventure. You’ll both be better for it :)
