I took a break from Medium for a few months as I recently became a new dad :)
I went to West Point and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan — so I figured dealing with a newborn would be no big deal.
But like combat, no amount of reading or classes or prep work can prepare you for the realities of becoming a new dad. It’s been a crazy last few months, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I was embarrassed to call myself an American today.
After the horrific terrorist attacks on 9/11, I applied to West Point. In May 2006, I commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army — swearing an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
